It’s Fair Use Week 2018! Fair Use balances the rights of a copyright holder with
the rights of the public to enjoy and make use of copyrighted materials to
promote science, research and the arts – and the rights of libraries to provide
information. The National Library of Medicine offers an excellent overview.
“Section 107 of
the US Copyright Act provides the details of fair use, but the University of
Virginia Library nicely summed it up in only
seven words: ‘Use fairly. Not too much. Have reasons.’ ”
