Unpaywall, a new tool to locate free full text

Here’s a new way to find full text content offered freely somewhere online! 

Easily install Unpaywall’s little lock symbol to your tool bar (Chrome or Firefox required). Then if you encounter an article for which a free full text source is available, a larger lock will appear on the right. A simple click takes you to the article. Since Unpaywall only matches with legally uploaded versions, it can be a great addition to your web search tools and will compliment other resources you may use.

   

Unpaywall should be officially released in early April, and developer Impactstory welcomes input.

CrossMark – a Useful Tool for Researchers

How can researchers and librarians find out about updates, corrections and retractions once a scholarly research paper is published? CrossMark is the tool that enables publishers to communicate these changes. Watch for this logo on a publication to check the status:

CrossMark is a service of CrossRef, the same folks who bring you the DOI (Digital Object Identifier) that is on many articles today.

TSRHC True Classics!

Papers by our own Tony Herring, Steve Richards, Mauricio Delgado and Richard Browne are included in the list of "100 Classic Papers of Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery" released today in the latest issue of Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. According to the analysis, Dr. Herring's article from 1992 called "The lateral pillar classification of Legg-Calve-Perthes disease" was number 46 in the list, cited 142 times. Dr. Herring's name is the only one that actually shows up in the list since it includes only first authors, but Dr. Browne was a co-author.

However, looking closer reveals that a paper by Dr. Delgado stands at number 39 -- "Recommendations on the use of botulinum toxin type A in the management of cerebral palsy" published in 2000. In 40th place is a 1993 paper by Dr. Richards called "Acute slipped capital femoral epiphysis: the importance of physeal stability."

Congratulations on being a true "classic"!
